While restoring an older home onsite, it’s imperative to have the proper tools! Not knowing which tool will best help you or what it can do for your vintage windows can cause a lot of headaches too. That’s why we’d like to share this information with you and go over the different power tools we use for rescuing wood windows in a historic home!
Listed below are all the tools mentioned in the video. We recommend getting as many of the tools as possible from your local hardware store. This helps support local businesses and some may repair the tools themselves, which ultimately prevents wasted tools.
Paulk Workbench – Blueprint only, assembly required.
DeWalt 20V Impact Driver – Standard tool for any repairman, handyman or contractor.
Bosch “Trim” Router Tool – Used for installing weather stripping on-site.
Bostitch 18 GA Brad Nailer – Fine trim nailer used for tacking up stop and parting bead.
Senco 16 GA Finish Nailer – Used to install trim for the casing interior and exterior.
DeWalt 20V Jig Saw – Good, versatile tool.
Genesis Mini Circular Saw – One of the tools we use to cut weight access doors (vertical cuts).
DeWalt 20V Multi-Tool – Multiple different ways to use this tool. This is one of the tools we use to cut weight access doors (horizontal cuts).
DeWalt 20V Hand Planer – Replica sash isn’t fitting right by just a hair? Pull off extra by using this tool.
Milwaukee Circular Saw – Just in case, have this tool handy!
Metabo HPT Compound Miter Saw – Bigger tool for cutting our Draftstop and Parting Bead. Different name than what we used in the video but same saw.
DeWalt 1 Gallon Air Compressor – Use this with the nailers. This model is great for its size.
DeWalt Table Saw – A must for fine finishes, trim carpentry and wood windows!
DeWalt HEPA/RRP Vacuum – Working on a home before 1978? The chances are high that lead paint was used, which can be very dangerous once airborne. Using this tool is crucial to protecting everyone involved with the job site! Wood Window Rescue uses as many DeWalt tools as possible because they all can connect with the HEPA Vac.
Vacuum Pro Scraper – An attachment for the DeWalt HEPA Vac, this Pro Scraper helps scrap off years of old paint in a safe manner.
